Now, I don't enjoy sodding through pairings. They tend to spark fandom wars and forum meltdowns. Hence, I stay away from the community and keep to myself when it comes to pairings. [Don't even get me started on yaoi...that's a whole 'nother dark corner of fandom]
Didn't stop me from drawing this. :/
I think it was inevitable for Megaman to develop feelings for Samus Aran (in MM9, anyway), eventually. 'Tis a long story, but suffice it to say she helped him when others (not counting his siblings) would abandon him. Samus, on the other hand, is well aware of Mega's affections, but doesn't try to dissuade him.
Sounds fine and dandy, huh? BUT, there are some snags. A lot, in fact.
*Everyone knows Megaman has the mentality of a ten-year-old boy. [The Foxinator pointed out that after all that time in space, plus galaxy jumps and such, Mega is technically older, but still, his mentality remains] Well, guess how old Samus is? THIRTY-FIVE. Yes, thirty-five. I don't care if she's officially younger, thirty-five makes sense. That's a damn big age gap right there, don't you think?
*Megaman's real home is on Earth, so regardless of how long he wants to remain with Samus, he'll have to leave eventually. Besides, does Samus have the equipment/ability to account for a second person on her gunship (pick one)? He'd spend most of his time stuffed into her glove compartment.
*Defending the galaxy takes top priority over romance (as *Dracozombie was kind enough to note), so they wouldn't get much time together anyway.
*Furthermore, Megaman is crap against Space Pirates, the likes of which Samus usually fights. If he's going into battle with her, chances are he's going to get crushed. Samus is no engineer, so what's the chances of her being able to repair him?
*Finally, Samus's view on their relationship is different from Mega's. It's more like a samurai watching over her young ward. This is fine, but what if Mega wanted to try and elevate their relationship? Would Samus think the same way? Probably not.
That, and all the nasty stuff that happens to Samus (read: Fusion, Prime 3) could just as easily happen to Megaman. She wouldn't want that, and I'm sure he wouldn't either.
Sooo, yep...it's not going to work out.
By the way, Megaman's armour comes from a concept sketch of RS-Megaman, generously posted by Protodude. Thanks, man!
The age difference trips me up. I don't think it's plausible for a romantic relationship with a person in her early-mid thirties to go around with a 10 year old boy. And heck, Megaman isn't even a real boy!
Unless some fairy comes in to wish him into a real boy, Pinnochio style. xD
So yah, you are right with those flaws.

Hmm, I thought Samus was only 23. That's what SSBB said, but I don't think that's a canon universe. There's a freakin' two-dimensional black...thing that can fight, so I doubt the SSBB world can be taken seriously.
Thinking about it, the Samus/Megaman "pairing" can even be taken as a mother/son relationship rather than romance. That sounds a lot more plausible. Samus would rather keep Megaman out of danger, and Megaman just wants to prove his worth and keep her happy, like any son would. And since he's a 10-year-old in mentality, he probably has drastically different views over what true love is.
As for the Space Pirate thing, well, is Megaman really useless against them? He's taken down things at least five times his size (like those giant robots you gotta face in the Wily stages), and after some training, I'm sure he'd be able to hold his own against Space Pirates. Maybe not the big baddies like Ridley and Kraid, but against the standard fodder Pirate, maybe. He could just wait on the ship during the times it'd be too dangerous. Plus, I always figured Megaman's firepower was close to Samus's.

Not to mention the series made Sheik female. I dunno, "her" build in Ocarina of Time is just a tad too manly, don't you think? But hey, so long as the game is fun...
Good point.
The way I (and the Foxinator) see it, a single Space Pirate would have the strength of an above-average Robot Master. Megaman usually only battles the RMs one at a time, so having a bombardment of RM-calibur chitinoid-things gang-pound him would be just a tad more strenuous than normal. He could always wait on the ship, except for the times when he can't (like if he followed Samus to Tourian).
As for firepower, the Foxinator did rule that Samus's was superior to Mega's, given different levels of technology on their respective planets. Mega could always get an upgrade, but he'd be very hesitant about it, in case it's incompatible with his body.
